Cocktail Hour

Fashion week has come to an end! Thanks SO much to everyone that came out to the show last night! It was the best one yet! So awesome! Pictures will be up soon!! 😉 For those of you that couldn’t make it, missed out! Ha ha ha! Now you have to wait till Spring to see the next one! I’m sure it will top this one!

But now it’s Friday! Mostly everyone’s favorite day of the week! This weekend is especially my fave because it’s my birthday weekend!!! Woo hoo!!! My birthday is Monday the 14th but me and my man are heading out on the town tonight to celebrate! Ha ha ha. Actually I don’t really know what we’re doing. Reservations at Houston’s (now Hillstone) are at 7pm then who knows but that’s my favorite place ever so I’d be happy with just that!!!

Anyways what are your weekend plans? Heading downtown for a night at Ember, or Colonial Town for a girl’s night at Amura? No matter what your plans are it’s almost 5 o’clock and cocktail hour is fast approaching! So put on that cocktail dress that hugs you in all the right places and take on the town!

For a fabulous and effortless look try one of these dresses! A strapless drape dress is a perfect choice no matter your body type. The drapery hides and camouflages hips and the tummy area for a more slender appearance. A strapless dress works for just about anyone. It draws attention up to the face and gives a sexy, confidence. Take along a blazer for the chilly night weather if you plan on being outside for a length of time.

Just remember to consider your body type! Flatter your figure and bring out your best! Pick out your body type and then see which styles are the most flattering.

Here are the different body types (as defined from Wikipedia) –

Apple (triangle downward) –
Apple shaped women have broad(er) shoulders compared to their (narrower) hips. Apple shaped women tend to have slim legs/thighs.
Try : Focus on the positive – arms, legs and bust. Try something with ruching, knotting, or pleating on the top to distract from the tummy area. Dresses or skirts should hit right above the knee. Try a dress with a dark bottom and lighter top in order to draw attention from the waistline.

Banana or straight (rectangular) –
The waist measurement is less than 9 inches smaller than the hips or bust measurement. Have a ruler or straight shape.

Try : Try a dress with a jeweled belt or some kind of sparkle in order to cinch the waist and add definition. Define your waistline and avoid tube dresses and boxy jackets.

Pear or spoon or bell (triangle upward)
The hip measurement is greater than the bust measurement. The women of this body type tend to have a (relatively) larger rear, robust thighs, and a small(er) bosom.

Try : An a-line skirt or or empire waistline to de-emphasize the lower half of your body. Anything with shoulder pads with balance your body shape. Try a two-toned dress with the lighter or brighter color above the waist and the darker tone below the waist.

Hourglass shape. (triangles opposing, facing in)
The hip and bust are almost of equal size with a narrow waist. This body type enlarges the arms, chest, hips, and rear before other parts, such as the waist and upper abdomen.

Try : Toss the tight clothes, go for a looser, smoother fit and monotone colors. Glam it up with accessories. Draw attention away from your bust and hips by accessorizing with jewelry high on the neckline.

When you’re dressed to kill you can take on the world!

How to : Smokey Eyes

So with the Fashion Show coming up in just 2 days, a must know how is smokey eyes! They are necessary for the runway! As a licensed cosmetologist (yes I went to beauty school and am licensed for hair & make-up in the state of FL) I think every girl should know how to do smokey eyes! Besides the fashion show they are the perfect look for any night time event. Smokey eyes give you a sexy, mysterious look. It’s very intriguing and glamorous! I love it! Pair is with nude lips and a light blush and you’re set for the night! I am pretty much sporing smokey eyes everyday after 4 😉 Ha ha ha! Also when you think of smokey eyes don’t always assume black. Try out a purple, gray, brown or dark green shade. Feel free to mix it up! Play around and have fun with it! I know you may not get the perfect smokey eye look on your first try, it does take a little bit of practice! So keep at it and keep trying! Make up allows us to create and change our appearance!

First off, here are the tools you will need which you can pick up at Sophie & Trey at GREAT prices!!!

Black and beige eye shadows ($1.99 each)
Black mascara ($1.99)
Black eyeliner pencil ($1.99)
Eyelash curler ($1.99)
A sponge tip applicator ($1.99)
A blending shadow brush ($1.99)
Nude lipstick or lip gloss ($1.99)
Make-up remover (just in case, $3.99)

Here’s a step-by-step tutorial from Kevin Aucoin, who was by far the BEST celebrity make-up artist, for you to help you create the classic yet sexy smokey eye look! I also took pictures of myself as I did each step so you could see! Pardon the towels in the background and it’s not the best photo taking skills lol 😉

Step 1. Prepare Lids

If possible, you should remove contact lenses before working on the eye area and put them back in when you’re done.

Use concealer sparingly, followed by loose powder applied with a powder sponge (not velour). (Optional: leave a little powder under the eye, to catch falling shadow.)

Step 1. Prepare Lids

Step 2. Use Eyeliner

Apply black eyeliner pencil to upper and lower inner eye area. Use the pencil liner from the inner eye corner to the outer. Smudge pencil gently into the lashes.
Remember you can use jewel-toned colors – line your eyes with a purple, blue or deep green liner.

Step 2. Use Eyeliner

Step 3. Blend & Smokey Effect

Using either a sponge-type applicator or shadow brush (your choice), blend pencil into smoky circle around eye.

Step 3. Color on Bottom Lids

Step 4. Apply Darker Color – Smokey Effect Itself

Then using the eyeshadow applicator, softly retrace penciled area (from lashes outward) with black eyeshadow. The idea is to smoke up the area. Remember to use as little as possible to get the best results.

Next, using the eyeshadow brush, arc into the crease of the eyelid, under and softly outward from the corner. (Concentrate the shadow on the outer half of the eye.)

Step 5. Apply Darker Color – Smoky Effect Itself

Step 5. Light Base Color on Upper Lids

Use beige powder eyeshadow to highlight browbone and eyelid. (You can even sweep a little bit slightly down the side of the nose and under the eye.)

Step 6. Correcting Smoky Eyes

Make sure your eyes match and use a Q-tip, if needed.

Step 7. Apply Volumizing Mascara

Curl the lashes and apply black mascara. The more coats, the more dramatic!

tep 7. Apply Volumizing Mascara

 As a bonus…..
Finally, fill in the mouth (using a lip brush) with neutral lip color and dust the cheeks with apricot blush.

MY FINAL LOOK! SMOKEY EYES, NUDE LIPS, APRICOT CHEEKS!

So stop by and pick up some make up today and give this a try!! If it’s not right the first time, use some make-up remover and try again! We have some awesome cucumber make-up wipes!! Smell great and work amazing!!!!
2 more days till the show! AH! Love it!
